August 31, 2025

Good afternoon, Stadium Students and Families.

This is Principal Shannon Marshall with some important updates.

If you missed previous emails, there are reminders at the bottom of this email each week. You can also find the Stadium Weekly at www.stadiumtigers.org.

Daily Schedule (Download and print school calendars.)

Monday, September 1, is Labor Day and all schools and district offices will be closed.

On Tuesday, September 2, we will provide tours for enrolled students who are new to Stadium. Please see details below.

It’s here, Tigers! Wednesday, September 3, is the first day of school!! There will be no late start for the first day of school. School will start promptly at 8:15 AM.

Save the Date: Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 24.

Save the Date: The Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 18.

Student Schedules

Students, if you are unable to access your classes through StudentVUE or ParentVUE, you may pick up a hard copy of your schedule in the main gym before school on September 3. If you can access your information, you DO NOT NEED to report to the main gym on the first day. Make sure to have your schedule with room numbers easily accessible on your TPS student laptop.

Students must go to their scheduled classes every period, every day. The counselors will be unavailable for meetings the first few days of school so they can prioritize scheduling new students. Thank you for your patience.

Our schedule correction form will open on Friday, September 5, at 2:45 PM. The form will be posted on Stadium’s Scheduling Hub. Please understand that we are over capacity at Stadium, so classes are full. Counselors cannot further overload classes.

Please do not email your counselor regarding schedules, as this will slow down their process and delay all schedule corrections. The schedule correction form will allow counselors to receive schedule correction requests in their email, and they will process them in the order received. Schedule corrections are always subject to the availability of the requested course. Per Washington state law, if after four days a student has not attended school, they will be withdrawn. This may create more space in classes to allow for corrections.

Attendance and On-time Arrival

Attendance is the number one indicator for student success. When students are in attendance our amazing teachers will make sure they are getting what they need academically and emotionally.

It is equally as important for students to arrive ON TIME to school each day. The exterior doors at Stadium are secure throughout the day to provide an upgraded level of security. Doors will open for students at 7:50 AM and will be supervised and unlocked until 8:15 AM. PLEASE make sure students are in their first class on time every day.

Student Lunches

Stadium has two lunches, and students may eat in the cafeteria, the courtyard, or have “quiet lunch” on the 2nd Floor Stage. On the first day of school, your 3rd period teacher will notify you if you have 1st lunch or 2nd lunch. If you have 1st lunch, go to lunch BEFORE 4th period. If you have 2nd lunch, go to lunch AFTER 4th period. No student will have both lunches.

25-26 Bus Information

Route information for the 2025-26 school year is now available. Please download the free transportation app, My Ride K-12 in Apple or Google Play. This app will detail bus stop location and route times. For more details, please visit Transportation - Tacoma Public Schools.

Students will need the same pass this year to ride the school bus as they used last year. The bus pass works for the duration of a student’s Tacoma Public Schools career. If a student switches routes, schools, addresses, etc., the same bus pass will still work.

As a reminder, students receiving Special Education transportation do not carry a pass, but families can still use the My Ride K-12 app to view routes.

The activity buses to Northeast Tacoma will depart Stadium at 5:15 PM and 6:30 PM each day.

As a reminder all TPS students may ride Pierce Transit with their complimentary ORCA card or TPS student ID card.

Student Drop Off/Pick Up

If you are driving your student to Stadium, use the turnaround at the end of 2nd Street by the flagpole. Stadium Way is for buses only – do not stop on Stadium Way. This is increasingly important as Sound Transit’s Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension trains run right next to our primary bus zone. We have over twenty school buses that go to and from Stadium each day, and for our students’ safety, especially with the light rail trains, the bus zone is painted red and is reserved for bus use only.

Construction on I-705 is underway and will continue through mid-October. For up-to-date details on closures, detours, and schedules, visit the City of Tacoma website: Tacoma Spur Stadium NB/SB Ramps.

Parking at Stadium

The Stadium High School parking garage is reserved for registered vehicles. Vehicles without Stadium registration will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Seniors must have been drawn in the lottery, completed all parking requirements, purchased their parking sticker, and have it displayed on their vehicle to park in the parking garage.

If you drive to school and do not have a parking sticker:

  • You may use local street parking during the school day.
  • Do not park in permitted parking spaces on the street or at neighboring apartment buildings. You may be ticketed and/or towed at your expense.
  • Do not park in handicapped accessible parking spaces without having the proper placard or designation. These spaces around the school and in the Stadium parking garage are monitored by the City of Tacoma, not Stadium High School, and they will issue tickets.

It is imperative that all students and families understand Stadium’s NO CELL BELL TO BELL Policy. Please review this information thoroughly. Thank you!

New Cell Phone & Electronic Device Policy at Stadium High School

As we start the new school year, Stadium High School is launching a building‑wide policy designed to help students stay focused, minimize distractions, and make the most of their learning time. Research and experience show that reducing personal device use during class leads to stronger engagement and academic success.

Beginning the first day of school, all students and staff will follow this policy:

  • No personal device use during class time (bell to bell) – this includes cell phones, tablets, earbuds, headphones, and other personal electronic devices.
  • Devices must be silent, out of sight, and kept in bags during class.
  • When leaving class for any reason (bathroom, etc.), students will leave devices in their bag in the classroom.
  • Personal devices will not be used for independent work time or as a reward during class.
  • Phones may be used before school, during lunch, and after school.

To ensure students have the tools they need for learning, all students are provided with a district‑issued laptop. Families should make sure laptops are fully charged each night, so students are prepared for class.

Please refrain from calling or texting your student during the school day. If you need to reach them urgently while they are in class, contact our main office and we will notify them on your behalf. Phones used during class time will be confiscated, regardless of who the student is communicating with.

When a phone is confiscated:

  • The device will be held in an assistant principal’s office until the end of the school day.
  • Repeated violations may result in a parent/guardian being required to pick up the phone and could lead to additional consequences.

Thank you for partnering with us in creating a focused and positive learning environment for all Stadium Tigers as we begin this school year together!

TPS Tech Help

Please ensure your student’s TPS laptop is updated and ready for the new school year. Laptops should be fully charged, with any updates installed, for the first day of school. Turn the laptop on, connect it to Wi-Fi, and charge it overnight. Make sure you can access MS Office 365. For tech assistance, please visit TPS’ Technology Support website.

New students may pick up their TPS student laptop at the end of their new student tour on September 2.

Lockers

Requests for lockers will be taken electronically starting on September 3. We would like students to experience their schedule and carefully plan for their locker location. Students will find the QR code to the locker form outside the main office and the business office. Students may also access the Locker Form from their TPS Office 365 account.

Visitors & Volunteers

Parents/Guardians are welcome at Stadium High School during the day by appointment and in the evening for events. Upon entering the building during school hours, visitors must sign in at the main office.

Tacoma Public School’s volunteer registration process requires that all parents/guardians and community members complete a Volunteer Form and a Washington State Patrol Criminal History background check before volunteering. You must complete the volunteer registration form each school year, so if you would like to volunteer in the 2025-26 school year, please complete a new form. Forms are available on the Tacoma Public Schools volunteer website. Forms should be completed a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to volunteering.

Reminders from last week…

Review/Update Information – ACTION REQUIRED

Tacoma Public Schools shares important information by email, phone, text, website, mail, and social media. It is important that we have current contact information and emergency contacts for our records. Use ParentVUE to review and update your information and complete annual required forms needed for the start of school. Required information includes health history and contact information.

As our teachers are meeting their students, it is very helpful to know the correct pronunciation of students’ names. Please login to ParentVUE or Student VUE, select the student, click the speaker icon next to the student name, and record the pronunciation. Our teachers and staff thank you!

CNEEB Form – Financial Assistance

If you need financial assistance and have not been automatically qualified for free and reduced-price lunch, please complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefits survey at: MySchoolApps - Select District.

New Student Tours

Students who missed Freshman Jump Start or who are new to Stadium, may take a new student tour on Tuesday, September 2. Due to tour guide availability, this tour is for our students only. New students who have completed the enrollment process will meet their student guides outside the cafeteria ramp door near the flagpoles at 1:00 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:00 PM, or 2:30 PM for a tour.

New students may pick up their TPS student laptop at the end of their new student tour.

School Pictures and Student ID

Students are required to have their picture taken for their ASB/ID cards. This picture will also be used in the yearbook. (Senior portraits will be accepted in the fall.) Because school-issued ASB/ID cards and yearbooks may be used as official identification, students must be in school-appropriate attire for their school picture with no head coverings.

Stadium Handbook

The Stadium Handbook is available online. This handbook contains important information, including details about attendance, cell phones, health & wellness, Stadium’s closed campus, dress code, visitors, and much more. You will also find valuable information in the TPS District Handbook. Please visit these websites to review these materials with your student.

Medications at School

If your student needs to take medication at school, including over-the-counter medication, you and your student’s doctor must sign a permission form that will remain on file in the Health Room. The medication must be in its original container. If it is a prescription, it must have your student’s name and current orders/instructions on the label. The medication must be brought to the Health Room by a parent or guardian. If the medication is for a life-threatening condition, the medication and current doctor’s orders must be in the Health Room prior to the first day of school. Please contact our school nurse, Nurse Sarah, to make arrangements. For more information about Health and Wellness, please visit the district’s website.

School Supplies

To start the school year, in addition to their TPS student laptop, Stadium students will need general supplies like pens, paper, pencils, and tools to help them stay organized. Each teacher will communicate with students if there are specific items needed for their class. If you need assistance with school supplies, please contact Mrs. Harkness, our Guidance Secretary.

School Laptops

Students will use the same TPS laptop this year. Please make sure to locate the laptop and charging cord. Students may purchase a replacement charging cord for $35 ($20 for F/R lunch) at the Stadium Business Office.

School Meals

Tacoma Public Schools provides breakfast and lunch for every student enrolled at a school where meals are served. All students can have a complete breakfast and lunch without any need to qualify for free or reduced meals.

School menus will be available soon at Nutrition Services - Tacoma Public Schools.

A full school meal is available to your student, even if they bring food from home. They must select at least three meal components, including a fruit or vegetable, but they are welcome to take the complete meal if they choose.

Senior Parking

Once school begins, the Stadium High School parking garage is reserved for registered vehicles driven by Stadium staff and students. Parking in the garage is limited, and available only to seniors via a lottery system.

Seniors, we received more applications than we have available spaces for parking in the garage. Seniors have been notified via school email whether or not they received a space in the lottery. We have compiled a waitlist for those seniors not drawn.

If you drive to school and do not have a parking sticker, you may use local street parking during the school day. Students may not park in permitted parking areas or spaces reserved for our neighboring apartment communities.

Please contact Mr. Tuman if you have questions regarding senior parking.
