Good afternoon, Stadium Students and Families,

This is Principal Shannon Marshall with some important updates.

Please check your student’s attendance on ParentVUE. If you notice discrepancies in your student’s attendance, please check with your student and/or contact our attendance team.

Daily Schedule

Due to a district internet outage on Friday, this Monday, March 17, we will offer the SAT to juniors with US History 4th, 5th, or 6th period and any junior who has not yet tested. Students must bring photo ID and arrive in the main gym with their fully charged TPS laptops and chargers by 8:10 AM.

Wednesday, March 19, is a Late Start Day. School will start promptly at 9:15 AM and buses will run one hour later.

Friday, March 21, is our Multicultural Assembly. We will be on an assembly schedule.

Saturday, March 22, is our Spring Tolo sponsored by the Class of 2026 (more info below).

Semi-Formal Spring Dance

Our semi-formal spring dance is here! The junior class is hosting the Enchanted Garden Tolo on Saturday, March 22, from 7:00-9:00 PM in the cafeteria. Tickets are $5 with ASB and $10 without ASB. Tickets can be purchased at the Stadium Business Office before school, during lunch, or after school until Friday, March 21. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Students must arrive at the cafeteria ramp door by 8:00 PM for entry. There will be no outside guests for this dance, and the dance will end at promptly at 9:00 PM, so plan your rides accordingly.

Stadium’s Spring Musical – Chicago

Tickets for Stadium High School’s Spring Musical, Chicago, are on sale now! Tickets may be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets and in the Stadium Business Office before school, during lunch, and after school. Tickets will be sold at the door (cash only) if the show is not already sold out.

Showtimes are at 7:00 PM on March 27, 28, and 29 and April 2, 3, and 4. We will have 1:30 PM matinee performances on March 29 and 30.

Tickets are $15. Students with ASB may buy a $12 ticket at the Stadium Business Office.

2025 Commencement Guide

Seniors and families, following this email, you will receive an email with the Class of 2025 Stadium High School Commencement Guide. Hard copies will be available in the main office for any students who are interested.

College & Career Center Update

This week in the College & Career Center, Mikaela Mattes with the College Success Foundation will host Tacoma Community College on Tuesday, March 18, after school for an opportunity for seniors to receive an on-the-spot admissions decision. On Thursday, March 20, Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) will be available in the cafeteria during lunches.

Mikaela welcomes students into the College & Career Center before school by appointment, during lunches, and after school Monday-Thursday. After school Mikaela provides opportunities for support with financial aid, scholarships, and all things college related. Her after school schedule for this week is:

  • “Motivation Monday” on March 17, at 2:45 PM
  • Tacoma Community College – on-the-spot admission on March 18, at 2:45 PM
  • “Working Wednesday” on March 19, at 2:45 PM
  • “Young, Black, and Thriving” on Thursday, March 20, at 2:45 PM

2025 Congressional Art Competition

Congresswoman Emily Randall invites high school students in Washington’s 6th Congressional District to participate in the Congressional Art Competition! This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your talents, with the first-place winner’s artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol!

Jobs 253: Spring Break Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for high school students who are at least 16 years of age, to gain experience in the field of recreation. Parks Tacoma will be hosting their second annual Spring Break Camp opportunity for youth community members aged 5 - 12 at four locations across Tacoma: Center at Norpoint, Titlow Park & Lodge, Wapato Park & Pavilion, and Point Defiance Park. This Jobs 253 opportunity will involve being trained by youth engagement professionals who will support volunteers, interns, and staff in becoming camp counselors. Palmer Scholars

JUNIORS: The Palmer Scholars Legacy Program provides a yearly scholarship and stipend totaling $3,500 per year for up to 5 years, plus college readiness training, college and career exploration, mentorship, and community building. To be eligible for the Legacy Program, you must: identify as a person of color, be a high school junior attending a Pierce County high school, be actively involved in your school and community, have a minimum 2.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need (free/reduced lunch eligible). Applications are due March 25, and more information is available here: Legacy Program | Palmer Scholars.

College Tours for Families

All Tacoma Public Schools students and families are invited to participate in the annual set of College Tours for Families, March 10 – May 17, 2025. Tacoma Public Schools’ Community Partnership Office, in partnership with the College Success Foundation, organize tours of eight outstanding local colleges. Guests will tour campuses and learn from college staff about the admissions process, financial aid, scholarships, and college life. Get more information and register here!

Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarships aren't just for the top students or best athletes. There are many different types of awards available. Please use this TPS website for Scholarship resources.

  • The Washington Awards for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) Scholarship is available for Washington’s top Career and Technical Education (CTE) students. This merit-based scholarship helps cover tuition and educational costs at Washington colleges, universities, or career institutions. High school seniors who have completed (or will complete) at least two CTE credits in a single pathway can apply.   • The Tacoma Elks Lodge 174 is offering two (2) scholarship programs for local high school seniors who are planning to continue their education. The Tacoma Elks Lodge 174 Scholarship for High School Seniors offers winners $1,000 a year, up to 4 years of undergraduate study. The Tronson Vocational Scholarship offers winners $1,000 a year, renewal depends on length of vocational program. Applications are due March 21, and more information is available HERE: ELKS.APP.FOR.SENIORS 2025.pdf.
  • The Nellie Martin Carman Scholarship awards renewable scholarships from $500 to $2,000 a year. First-time applicants must plan to enroll in a college or university in the state of Washington full-time. To be considered, you must turn in your FAFSA Submission Summary and a letter of recommendation to Mikaela Mattes by Monday, March 31.
  • Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Mary Ball Chapter is awarding a $2000 Moir McCleary Memorial Scholarship to a senior in Tacoma Public Schools. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a resident of Pierce County. For more information and to apply, please visit Moir-McCleary Scholarship - MARY BALL CHAPTER DAR. Applications are due March 31.
  • The Pearl Foundation of Puget Sound will be providing three $2500.00 scholarships to students who have a record of excellence in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service and who plan to attend a four-year college. For more information and to access the online application, please visit: Pearl Foundation of Puget Sound - Programs. The application is due April 1.
  • The Sea Mar Latino/a Educational Achievement Project Scholarship provides a scholarship award of $2500 for students who demonstrate a history of advocacy, responsibility, accountability, perseverance, are go-getters, and have shown or have the strong potential to be contributors to their community. The application is due April 15 and more information, including the application, is available at: Sea Mar -Community Health Centers.
  • The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Delta Pi Chapter 2025 Scholarships Program will award six $1,000 scholarships to qualified high school seniors in Pierce and Thurston Counties. Candidates must have at least a 2.5 cum GPA. For more information and to download the application, please visit: Omega Psi Phi Delta Pi Chapter - Programs. The application is due April 30.
